Introducing our newest team member - Scott Amick
Welcome Scott Amick, Recreation Supervisor!
Paradise Recreation and Parks District is excited to introduce you to our newest team member, Scott Amik. M.A.. Scott comes to us with an unrivaled passion for connecting individuals with outdoor education and reaction opportunities. His energy has already supercharged our efforts to creatively offer recreation opportunities in the face of the social distancing challenges posed by COVID 19.
As a Camp Fire survivor, Scott has an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by the community in the Paradise and Magalia areas. He says,
"Rebuilding a community is so much more than reconstructing homes, buildings, and infrsatructure. In order to rebuild our community, we must first rebuild the members of the community by offering opportunities to remember why they moved to The Ridge in the first place - to be amongst a caring community in a stunning natural setting."Mr. Amick
Mr. Amick has been a part of the greater business community in Butte County for over a decade. After completing his Masters Degree in Biomechanical Analysis in Outdoor Education through CSU Chico, he oppened a personal training and physical therapy studio in Chico. Shortly after, several other entrepenurial endeavors led him to Odyssey Teams, a teambuilding company in Chico that services both large, international corporations, as well as hosts programs for Butte County Behavioral Health, CSU Chico, Butte County Office of Education, and many local schools and organizations. Scott orchestrated, designed, and implemented Social Emotional Learning programs focused on healing through community building, leadership development, and outdoor experinces such as Ropes Courses, STEM programming, and the occasional school assembly.
At Paradise Recreation and Parks District, Mr. Amick will be charged with overseeing the community partnership with Outdoor Education for All, a non-profit organization that has been funded through the North Valley Community Foundation to bring trauma informed outdoor education and reacreation opportunities to Butte County with a focus in Paradise for the Camp Fire survivors in schools as well as other organizations. Scott is also excited to "tell the story" of the great work that PRPD, its community partners, and the community at large are performing on The Ridge.
In addition to overseeing the Healing Trauma Through Nature grant, Scott will be working closely with CSU Chico Professors, the Ecological Reserves, Butte County Office of Education, Butte County Behavioral Health, the Forebay Aquatic Center, the Chico Nature Center, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northern California, and several other community partners to align outdoor education providers with students, teachers, and other organizations that seek ecological education, nature centric recreation, and opportunities for natural resource advocacy. Check out this video recap from CAMP COURAGE 2019 to get an idea of the types of programs he will develop.
Please contact Scott via email at samick@paradiseprpd.com if you would like to congratulate him on joining the PRPD team or if you would like to connect to align your students or organization with field trips, recreation suggestions, or other collaborative opportunities.
