Where: Paradise Lake, Magalia CA
- Picnic and Trailhead Side - Directions to Lucretia Road HERE
- Boat Launch #1 and #2 - Directions to North Lake Road HERE
When: Saturday, April 12th from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm
- PLEASE respect the starting times to ensure a fair derby for all. A fog horn will sound marking the beginning of the derby sharply at 6:00 am.
Why: Since PRPD accepted stewardship of Paradise Lake from Paradise Irrigation District in 2020, the annual fishing derby that was once held at Aquatic Park has seen nearly 1,000 participants! Thanks to the hard work of PRPD staff members Jeff Dailey, Lori McCoslin, Willie Davidson, and the rest of the crew, over 10,000 lbs of fish have been stocked for the fishing derbies. The positive memories that staff, the events sponsors, and the community help our youth create are at the heart of what we strive for at PRPD.
How: Arrive at Paradise Lake between the hours of 6:00 am and 2:00 pm. Find a space on the banks of the 4.0 mile trail that lines the eastern banks of the lake. Cast your bait into the lake and reel in your fish! If you catch a monster, bring your fish to the Picnic and Trailhead side of the lake to have it measured and entered in the competition for largest catch. If you are on the Boatlaunch 1 & 2 side of the lake, you can find one of the PRPD staff and they can measure and call it in over the radio.
