The Paradise Recreation and Park District (PRPD) continues to make steady progress on the Lakeridge Park project in Magalia.

Over the years, PRPD submitted multiple funding applications to support development of the park.  In November 2021, the California State Parks Program approved a $5.2 million grant to fund the project.  Finalizing the grant agreement and subsequent amendments took time, with the process ultimately concluding on December 19, 2023.  Since that time, the project team has been actively advancing park design, initiating the permitting process, and conducting required site studies.  

Community involvement has played an important role in shaping the project. PRPD staff have hosted a variety of public input opportunities, including community meetings, design workshops with school-age children, and site visits with local residents. The current concept for the park includes a recreation center, multiple playgrounds, sports courts, a botanical garden, an amphitheater, hiking and biking trails, and other community-focused amenities. 

On October 1, 2024, PRPD hosted a public site meeting attended by approximately 25 community members. During this event, the design team shared updates and gathered additional input regarding the park’s development. This community-driven project has been in the works since 2006, with significant contributions from Upper Ridge residents and volunteers throughout the planning process. 

Current Project Status 

The project is currently in the planning and design phase. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review process has been completed, while several permits remain in progress. Due to the nature of the site, additional work is required to fully characterize building conditions. Geotechnical studies and site visits are currently underway in coordination with Butte County. 

With a projected completion timeline of 2028, Lakeridge Park represents an important milestone in expanding recreation opportunities and supporting the continued recovery and revitalization of our Ridge communities.
